Sinhagad is nestled deep in the Sahyadri Range and is engulfed on all sides by dense green jungle. The road to Sinhagad traces the edges of the Khadakwasla Reservoir which is trapped between the hills on three sides and a dam on the fourth. The trek to the Fort is a good assortment of gentle climbs to steep ones offering a good exercise for those city ached muscles. Sinhagad has great history attached to it. The fort built by the Marathas was captured by the Moghuls and was reclaimed by Tanaji; the Chieftain whose army used ropes tied to Iguanas to climb the walls of the fort, took the Moghuls unawares and recaptured the Fort for the Marathas. |
