The Sariska Tiger Reserve The world famous wild life sanctuary is 22 kms away and provides many fascinating spots for wild life lovers, as well as those who are interested in art and archaeology. The Sariska Tiger Reserve is one of the few forested area in the Aravalli hills and has a good population of Sambhar, Panther, Chinkara, Chital, Wild boar, Tiger, Nilgai and birds including Parakeets, Storks, Peasant, Oriels, Eagles and Owls. Besides wildlife, the sanctuary has several interesting spots like Pandupol, Nilkanth Mahadeo, ruins of Bhangarh and an ancient fort Kankwari on a hill top, where the emperor Aurangzeb is believed to have imprisoned his brother Darashikoh.

 
Attractions

Alwar - once known to be the gateway of Rajputana is a historical city which takes you back into time. It is amongst the oldest cities in Rajasthan and its pre historic as well as historic sites are an archeological delight. Presence of the Aravallis also provides Alwar with a lot of picturesque locations - deep valleys and forest cover (the Sariska) which is a haven to several species of birds and animals. Alwar was once a part of Matasya-and is believe to be one of the oldest kingdoms of the state. It was here in the city of Virat Nager, during the time of king Virat where that the mighty Pandavas ('heroes of the great Indian epic Mahabharata') spent the last 13 years of exile. There are monuments named after the 'Pandwas' that still exist around Sariska. There is much to see and enjoy places in and around Alwar which includes ancient temple, medieval forts, palaces and gardens.
